Diagnostic Caveat: A pregnancy that cannot be located within the uterus on an ultrasound does not automatically mean it is ectopic; further evaluation may be required.

Treatment

An ectopic pregnancy cannot develop normally outside the uterus and cannot safely be relocated to the uterus. Treatment depends on factors such as the pregnancy's location and size, β-hCG levels, symptoms, and the individual's overall condition.

Treatment may include:

Expectant management:Close medical monitoring may be appropriate in selected cases where the ectopic pregnancy is resolving naturally.
Medication:Methotrexate may be used in appropriate patients to stop the pregnancy from continuing to grow.
